Anxiety Counselling in Nottingham
If you are looking for anxiety counselling in Nottingham, I am Elaine Bond, a UKCP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Carlton, Nottingham.
I provide individual counselling and psychotherapy for adults aged 18 and over experiencing anxiety, stress and related difficulties. Sessions are available face-to-face from my private counselling room in Carlton as well as online and remotely.
How anxiety can affect everyday life
Anxiety can affect people in many different ways. For some people it is connected with a particular situation or experience, while for others it can feel like a constant presence that is difficult to switch off.
Anxiety may affect your work, relationships, sleep, confidence, concentration and ability to cope with everyday situations.
You may find yourself avoiding situations, worrying about what might happen, feeling overwhelmed or struggling to understand why you feel anxious in the first place.
Counselling provides a confidential space where we can explore your individual experience of anxiety and what may be contributing to it.
What can we explore in anxiety counselling?
Our work together will depend on you and your circumstances. We may explore areas such as:
- Persistent worry and overthinking
- Stress and feeling overwhelmed
- Panic and anxious feelings
- Work-related anxiety
- Relationship anxiety
- Low confidence and self-esteem
- Difficult past experiences
- Patterns of avoidance
- Fear of particular situations
- Neurodiversity, masking and overwhelm
- Life changes and uncertainty
The aim is to better understand your experience, recognise patterns and explore different ways of responding to difficult thoughts, emotions and situations.
Anxiety, trauma & past experiences
Sometimes anxiety can be connected with difficult or traumatic experiences from the past.
I have particular experience working with trauma and trauma-related difficulties, including PTSD and complex PTSD (CPTSD). Where anxiety appears alongside trauma, our work can take account of both your current difficulties and the experiences that may be contributing to them.
You can find more information about this area on my trauma counselling page.
Anxiety & neurodiversity
I also work with neurodivergent adults and have lived experience of receiving a later diagnosis of ADHD.
For some neurodivergent people, anxiety may be connected with experiences such as masking, overwhelm, uncertainty, difficulties having needs understood or the pressure of trying to meet expectations that do not fit the way they experience the world.
Counselling is adapted to you as an individual rather than expecting you to fit a particular way of working.
My approach to anxiety counselling
I work in a humanistic and relational way and believe that there is no single approach that suits everybody.
I will listen first and work collaboratively with you to understand what is happening in your life and what you would like to change.
Our work may involve exploring thoughts, emotions, relationships, past experiences and patterns of behaviour. Where appropriate, I may also draw upon approaches and techniques including CBT and ACT.
You can find out more about my approach, experience and professional qualifications on my About Elaine Bond page.
