About Elaine Bond

Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in Nottingham

I'm Elaine Bond, a UKCP registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a private practice in Carlton, Nottingham.

I believe strongly in the value of therapy and have personal experience of being in therapy myself. That experience has helped shape the way I work with clients: with openness, empathy, respect and an understanding that counselling can sometimes feel challenging as well as rewarding.

I provide individual counselling and psychotherapy for adults aged 18 and over, both face-to-face from my counselling room in Carlton and remotely.

My counselling experience

I began my counselling career with Childline, where I spent more than 10 years working as a counsellor and supervisor.

I have also worked with SHE UK, providing therapy for survivors of sexual abuse, and have provided mental health and safeguarding support for young people within further education and sport.

Alongside my private counselling practice, I have experience delivering continuing professional development (CPD) training.

My professional and personal experience has given me particular knowledge and experience in areas including:

  • Trauma and trauma-related difficulties
  • PTSD and complex PTSD
  • Dissociation and DID
  • EUPD
  • Anxiety
  • Neurodiversity and ADHD
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Bariatric surgery, including pre- and post-operative support
  • Eating difficulties
  • Menopause

You can find more information about the issues I work with on my Counselling Services page.

My qualifications

My counselling and psychotherapy qualifications include:

  • Advanced Diploma in Relational (Integrative) Counselling
  • Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Foundation Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling
  • Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents
  • Diploma in Weight Loss & Nutritional Counselling
  • NLP Practitioner

I am a member of the Scarborough Psychotherapeutic Training Institute and undertake regular professional supervision as part of maintaining an ethical, reflective and professionally boundaried practice.

My approach to counselling

I work in a humanistic and relational way, which means the relationship between therapist and client is an important part of the counselling process.

I do not believe that one approach suits everyone. Each person brings their own history, experiences, personality and way of understanding the world, so the way we work together is adapted to you.

Our work may involve exploring current difficulties, past experiences, childhood patterns, relationships, coping strategies and the ways these continue to affect you in the present.

Where appropriate, I may also use approaches and techniques drawn from CBT, ACT and creative therapeutic work.

My aim is to provide a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore what is happening for you at a pace that feels manageable.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if you are the right counsellor for me?

Choosing a counsellor is a personal decision and it is important that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to work with.

I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation so we can briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling, what you are looking for and whether I may be the right therapist for you.

There is no pressure to book a session following the call.

Do I need to attend counselling every week?

I generally recommend beginning counselling on a weekly basis where possible, as regular sessions can help build continuity in the therapeutic work.

If weekly sessions are not practical for you, we can discuss a frequency that may work better for your circumstances.

What happens during the first counselling session?

The first session gives us an opportunity to talk more fully about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like to achieve and how we might work together.

We will also discuss confidentiality, boundaries and practical arrangements. You can find more information on my Counselling Services page.

How long does counselling last?

There is no set length of time for counselling.

Some people come to therapy to work on a particular issue over a shorter period, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore more complex or longstanding experiences and patterns.

We can review how the counselling is progressing together and discuss when it feels appropriate to finish.

Is counselling confidential?

Counselling is confidential, although there are circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken for safeguarding or legal reasons. I will explain the limits of confidentiality when we begin working together.

Can I have counselling if I take medication?

Yes. Many people attend counselling while taking medication prescribed by their GP or another healthcare professional.

Medication decisions should be discussed with the clinician responsible for prescribing it. Counselling can provide a separate space to explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and ways of coping.

What is your cancellation policy?

I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you are unable to attend an appointment, please contact me as soon as possible to cancel or rearrange your session.

Do you offer weekend appointments?

I currently offer Saturday appointments from 9.00am to 2.30pm, subject to availability.

How much does counselling cost?

50-minute session: £60
90-minute session: £90

Who do you work with?

I do not currently provide couples therapy, sexual therapy or counselling for children and adolescents.
